What the Tolantongo tour from Mexico City includes
One long day from the city centre to the thermal water and back: 14 to 16 hours, from $134 per adult, rated 4.8 from 1569 reviews, with a maximum of 14 people in the vehicle. You meet at the Angel de la Independencia between 5:35 and 5:50 am, and you are back in Mexico City between 7:30 and 9:30 pm if traffic and weather behave.
Transport is private and air-conditioned, with a blanket on board for the dark hours before dawn, and the breakfast buffet in Actopan is paid for by the operator, vegetarian options included. Every guest gets a small backpack holding a water bottle, sport towel, headlamp, phone waterproofer, toilet paper, wet wipes and a bag for wet clothes, plus sunscreen, soap, shampoo and a dry bath towel. Tables, chairs and a cooler travel with the group for lunch by the river, and there is a snack at the end of the day for the ride home.
Two things are paid separately. Lunch is ordered from a menu earlier in the day and the total is collected before you leave, unless you booked the lunch-covered option capped at MXN 220, and the zipline that drops you towards the river costs MXN 300 per person on site.
Guides here speak fluent English, most having lived a large part of their lives in the United States or Canada, and the operator's selling point is time: this day spends longer inside the park than its own schedule-driven alternatives, with one guide group rather than a coach full of people.

Meeting point, pickup and cancellation
Meeting point: the rotunda on the side of the street facing the Angel of Independence monument, to its left, closest to the Sheraton María Isabel hotel. Guests make their own way there and should arrive between 5:35 and 5:50 am.
Pickup: pick-up and drop-off are offered in these areas only: Roma Norte, Roma Sur, Condesa, Juárez, Polanco, Anzures, San Rafael, Cuauhtémoc (the neighbourhood, not the city district), Tabacalera and Centro Histórico. In Centro Histórico the drop-off is often limited to a single point near the Palacio de Bellas Artes because of daytime and evening road restrictions, and that area sees heavy traffic and closures for local events. If you qualify for pick-up, you will be asked to confirm you are ready 5 to 10 minutes before your pick-up window, which is confirmed after booking and before the trip date; without that confirmation the pick-up is cancelled and you will be asked to reach the general meeting point no later than 5:50 am.
Cancellation: full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
The Early & Express is the cheapest organised day in pesos and leaves earliest, with lunch left to you; the small group tour puts a professional guide alongside you, with cave entrance and round-trip transport included but no water; the transport-and-tickets option simply delivers you to the park and leaves the day in your hands; the Exclusive adds La Gloria, buffet breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks.
The Tolantongo tour from Mexico City on this page is the one that spends the longest stretch inside the park and arrives with the full kit of towels, headlamps and waterproof phone covers, which matters if you are flying in with hand luggage only.
