Entry to Grutas Tolantongo is charged for each person for each day you spend in the canyon, and the booth keeps selling long after the grotto has shut. Here is how that works, and which organised departures take the entry and the timing off your hands.
Updated 7 October 2026
General admission on the cooperative's own price list is MXN 230 per person, and it is charged by the day rather than by the visit. The ticket works only on the date you bought it, inside the window the park states as 7 am to 8 pm, so yesterday's stub is of no use to you this morning.
A room inside the park is lodging and nothing more. The cooperative's lodging page says in plain terms that park admission is not part of the room rate, which means a couple staying two nights pays entry twice over for two people. Work that into your cash before you leave Ixmiquilpan.
Two reductions appear on the price list. Seniors who show a valid INAPAM credential pay half the general rate, and children aged 0 to 4 are not charged at all; from a child's fifth birthday the full adult ticket applies.
Everything at Tolantongo is a cash transaction: the ticket window, the restaurant, the shop, the hotel sections, the shuttles. Cards are not accepted anywhere in the park and there is no machine on site, so the money has to be in your pocket when you start down into the barranca.
Entry is in the price here, so nothing changes hands at the window: 13 hours from $137, rated 4.9 from 679 reviews, air-conditioned vehicle, and a 4:30 am meeting time that puts you on the terraces as they open at 8:00.

The booth (taquilla) starts selling at 6:00 and carries on until 23:00. That tells you almost nothing about what you can actually do, because the attractions keep far shorter hours: the grotto, the tunnel, the waterfalls and the swimming pools stop at 17:00, and so do the suspension bridge, the zipline and locker rental.
The exceptions are the thermal river and part of the terrace bank, which keep going to 21:00. Eating and shopping last an hour longer again, with the restaurant and the grocery store open to 22:00; from 23:00 the noise rule bites, so no music and nothing disruptive, campgrounds included.
Turn up at 16:00 with a valid ticket and you will have an hour in the cave and then a river. Be through the gate at 8:00 and you get the grotto and the swimming pools with the day still empty, then the cliff pools, then the river in the evening. Nothing on the calendar changes this: tickets are sold on all 365 days of the year inside the same 7 am to 8 pm validity, so the date you pick affects the crowds and not the access. Hours come from the park's own information page; glance at the board at the entrance on the day.
| What | Hours |
|---|---|
| Ticket booth (taquilla) | 6:00–23:00 |
| Caves, tunnel, waterfalls, swimming pools | 8:00–17:00 |
| Suspension bridge | 8:00–17:00 |
| Zipline | 8:00–17:00 |
| Locker rental | 8:00–17:00 |
| Thermal river and some terrace pools | 8:00–21:00 |
| Restaurant and grocery store | 8:00–22:00 |

The ticket covers the water and the walking, including the suspension bridge in the Paraíso Escondido zone. Several things on site are billed separately, and all of them in cash.
Parking is the one that catches drivers out. It is MXN 50 per vehicle per day, and the wording on the price list is worth reading before you leave anything on a seat: you are buying a space, with no custody arrangement and no liability accepted for damage or for items that go missing.
On the zipline the park's own pages do not agree. The price list describes MXN 300 per person per launch, while the English prices page describes MXN 300 per person for the complete 1,890 m circuit of four launches. Ask at the zipline kiosk what your MXN 300 buys before you hand it over.
The question behind the ticket price is how you get to the window in the first place, and at what hour. Count 201 km out of Mexico City, which the cooperative's distance table turns into 3 hours 50 minutes behind the wheel, and you have the reason organised departures meet between 4:30 and 5:50 am and run 13 to 16 hours door to door.
The tour departures first, then the two self-arranged routes, with the cooperative's own channel last.
| Price | Duration | What's included | Who it suits |

| Early & Express Tolantongo Hot Springs, from $137 (4.9 from 679 reviews) | 13 hours | Entry to the park sits in the price, along with the air-conditioned vehicle; lunch you buy yourself | Anyone who wants the cliff terraces at 8:00 and entry already handled; meeting point confirmed the day before, usually around Roma or near the Angel de la Independencia, be there by 4:30 am |
| Travel to Tolantongo Transportation and tickets, from $120 (4.7 from 103 reviews) | 14 hours | Private air-conditioned transport, all fees and taxes, transport between both sections of the park; breakfast, lunch, dinner, towel and water shoes not included | People who want the road and the moving around arranged, then complete freedom inside; morning meet at Café Café, coffee ready if you send your order ahead |
| Own car: the CAPUFE route works out at roughly $7 (MXN 127) in tolls, ~$4 (MXN 72) of that charged for a car at the Ojo de Agua booth, then ~$3 (MXN 50) a day for the parking space and ~$13 (MXN 230) per person for every day of entry | About 3 h 50 min each way from Mexico City, 3 h 6 min from Querétaro, 2 h 28 min from Pachuca, 1 h 11 min from Ixmiquilpan | Nothing is included; everything is paid in cash on site, and the Santiago de Anaya–El Cardonal shortcut was still unfinished in January 2026 with sections in poor condition | People who already have a vehicle and are willing to start in the dark |
| Bus plus the cooperative's shuttle, ticket bought at the booth: Pachuca–Ixmiquilpan ~$2–3 (MXN 42–61) one way, shuttle ~$4 (MXN 80) per person per trip, admission ~$13 (MXN 230) per person per day | Pachuca to Ixmiquilpan comes to about 1 h 38 min on a direct service, with the last 42.9 km into the canyon taking roughly another 1 h 11 min | Seats only. Into Ixmiquilpan on OVNIBUS or FLECHA ROJA out of gates 7–8 at the Central del Norte terminal, or on PAI, AVM and CONEXION from Pachuca. The final stretch is the cooperative's shuttle, leaving Ixmiquilpan Mon–Thu at 09:30, 11:30, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30 and hourly between 09:30 and 17:30 Fri–Sun, with park-side returns at 7:30, 11:30, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30 | Travellers already sleeping in Ixmiquilpan, Pachuca or inside the park, since the last published return leaves at 17:30 |

The cooperative sells its entry at the window, in cash, on the day. Nothing about that is complicated once you are standing in San Cristóbal with pesos; the hard part is arriving there by 8:00 from a city 201 km away, with the right notes in your wallet and a plan that respects a 17:00 closing time on the grotto.
That is what the organised departures are buying you. The Early & Express day lists park tickets among its inclusions and meets at 4:30 am precisely so the terraces are open when you reach them. The full-day option takes on the pre-dawn drive and lends you the headlamp and the towel the grotto asks for. The transport-and-tickets day also covers the movement between the two sections of the park, which otherwise costs MXN 15–20 a head each time you ride.
One caution on where you book. The cooperative states publicly that look-alike websites use its brand to sell fraudulent offers, and that it accepts no responsibility for services or travel packages bought through third parties. This site is independent of the cooperative and sells departures run by licensed operators, each with a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Book a named operator and keep the confirmation.
The cooperative's pages publish the rate and the hours, and its reservation channel by WhatsApp, Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, covers rooms in the Rancho and Paraíso #2 sections only. It also warns that look-alike websites use its brand to sell fraudulent offers and that it takes no responsibility for services bought from third parties. If you want entry arranged before you leave the city, book a departure that lists park tickets among its inclusions and keep the operator's confirmation.
No. Two ejidos mean two gates and two tills: San Cristóbal runs Grutas Tolantongo, while the neighbouring La Mesa ejido runs La Gloria Tolantongo on its own rate card, MXN 180 for an adult with the full rate starting at age 6, or MXN 150 if you walk in over the Puente de Tolantongo, for access between 7:00 and 19:00. The internal shuttle will not take you there either: that service list stops at La Gruta, La Cadena, La Huerta, Rancho and Paraíso.
It operates every day of the year, holidays included, from 7 am to 8 pm, with no closed season. One of the park's co-owners has described ordinary weekends filling to 20 or 30 per cent, long holiday weekends to around 75 per cent, and the main days of Semana Santa to 100 per cent. For the quietest version of the same cliff pools, come midweek and be at the gate at 8:00.
The room is nominally yours from 8:00 if one is free, and from 15:30 if not, with the key due back at noon the following day. Published rates begin at MXN 650 for a simple king at Molanguito and top out at MXN 2,800 for a triple at Rancho, the bulk of the doubles falling between MXN 1,300 and 2,400, cash in every case. Rancho and Paraíso #2 take advance reservations by WhatsApp on weekdays; rooms in Gruta, Huerta and Paraíso Escondido are rented only when you arrive, which is another reason to get there before midday.
The Early & Express Tolantongo Hot Springs day lists park tickets in the price, alongside an air-conditioned vehicle, with lunch left to you. The Travel to Tolantongo Transportation and tickets day includes private air-conditioned transport, all fees and taxes and the transport between both sections of the park. Inclusions differ from product to product, so read the list on the departure you choose; every one of them refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start time.
